Jay-Z is no stranger to the jet-set lifestyle. The music mogul and entrepreneur’s impressive career spans over two decades, but the rapper seem seems to be shying away from the music industry and inching towards entrepreneurial efforts. Jay-Z has previously invested in several startup companies, including Jetsetter and Julep Cosmetics. His latest investment is in supporting direct-to-consumer luggage brand, Away Travel.

Away offers sturdy, hard shell suitcases with sleek design, complete with tech-savvy features. Away promises that their durable luggage line is unbreakable and will withstand rough TSA procedures, keeping your belongings unharmed. The co-founders, Jen Rubio and Stephanie Korey launched the brand in February 2016, earning $12 million in sales during their first year. Rubio and Korey interviewed hundreds of well-versed travelers before designing the suitcases, and their avid research seems to have paid off.

It’s common knowledge that whether travelling for work or pleasure, the process of getting to your destination can often be stressful, especially if unprepared. Away luggage was conceived with a goal to eliminate some of the hassles associated with travelling, and to offer luggage created with an innovative design to promote ease and better organization. Each suitcase is “made for life,” with helpful additions including a built-in USB outlet for charging on the go, a mesh laundry bag and TSA friendly lock.

Given all of the luxurious and functional elements of Away’s luggage, it’s only natural that Jay-Z would invest in such an innovative brand with suitcases that match his jet-set lifestyle. The business mogul is undoubtedly an experienced traveler and Away’s innovative design and attention to a traveler’s needs certainly caught his eye.

Jay-Z’s apparent growing interest in supporting young startups has evolved quickly in the last few years. His newest business endeavor, a Startup Platform called ARRIVE was announced earlier in March. This firm will aim to invest in young startup companies like Away Travel, supporting fresh ideas that fill gaps in consumer demand. ARRIVE will provide young entrepreneurs with business development, branding services, and general guidance for successful business practices.
