Jay Peak Resort, Vermont, Cancels Spring Pond Skim

Jay Peak Resort, Vermont, has canceled its upcoming pond skim event this Saturday, April 20th, due to weather concerns.

Below a social media post announcing the cancellation, Jay Peak bluntly elaborated on the weather forecast for Saturday: "40 degrees and raining."

The cancellation was surely a tough call, but it makes more sense with that tidbit of information. Pond skims and rain don't jive. The point is to get wet during the pond skim—not before.

Jay Peak's Annual Pump House Beach Party, at the Pump House Indoor Waterpark, is still on this Saturday. Held from 4 P.M. to 7 P.M., the event features live music, games, and giveaways. While access to the Party is free, the Waterpark's attractions will still require purchased admission.

Despite the forecasted rain and ensuing scheduling mix-up, there's still life in Jay Peak's snowpack.

The resort recently shared its spring operation plans, which should include at least one weekend of skiing in May. Jay Peak plans to run its lifts as usual through April 28th, with plans to reopen The Jet lift on May 4th and 5th. The Jet may reopen on May 12th and 13th, too—weather and conditions dependent.

The next event on Jay Peak's docket is The Taste of the Kingdom, a food-focused affair on April 25th featuring small plates and local flavors at the Foeger Ballroom. Live music is on the menu, too.

Elsewhere in Vermont, Killington is once again poised to be the standard bearer of late-season skiing. While the resort hasn't announced an official closing day in advance—the resort prefers not to—it usually remains open until late May or early June with access to Superstar.
