While spending months confined to your home is absolutely necessary to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, it can also get a little boring. There’s no better time to learn new skills, discover new hobbies and find new products to get you through the doldrums.
And you’re part of a celeb-filled circle that did the exact same thing! Jay Manuel, former America’s Next Top Model judge, TV host and author, chatted with Yahoo Life to share some of his favorite finds while under quarantine.
“Everybody has been so obsessed with different items during quarantine because we’re just stuck at home,” he says. Here are his five faves:
There’s no better time to get organized — and there’s no better place to start than with labeling your essentials.
“This thing is so awesome...I started making labels for everything,” Manuel shares. “I started labeling things for my dogs!”
The gizmo connects to an app and can print labels using its library of 450 symbols, over 60 frames and a variety of fonts. Warning: It’s addictive.
No, it’s not a sculpture! Just place your fruit at the dome and twist, and juice cascades down the grooves into your glass. It’s the most functional conversation piece you’ll ever own—and it’s an Amazon’s Choice, too.
“It’s not a big electrical device,” the author shares. “It drips perfectly into the vessel you have underneath.”
Stressed? Join the club. This lightweight massager is going to work out any knot or kink you have in your back or shoulders.
Manuel shares that all you have to do is plug it in, then let it work its magic on your sore spots.
“I pulled it out during a Zoom chat and everyone was like, ‘What is that?’” Manuel recalls. “So everyone started buying them!”
Skeptical of most beauty serums? So is Manuel. But this 100 percent vitamin C concentrate has changed his mind! It promises to increase collagen synthesis, provide antioxidant protection and leave your skin nice and glowy.
“You just put this on at night after you wash your face,” he advises. “I couldn’t believe how my complexion evened out...This is hardcore.”
Manuel is also obsessed with, wait for it...his own book! The novel is a satirical look at the behind-the-scenes action of fictional modeling competition Model Muse, as told through the eyes of Pablo Michaels, the “Fixer” on the show. Sound familiar?
“It’s meant to make people laugh out loud, cringe, you’ll talk to the book at times,” Manuel raved. “And it’s very, very entertaining. It’s extremely fast-paced. It’s meant to mirror the world behind the scenes of reality TV.”
It also deals with subjects close to Manuel’s heart:
“I really wanted to look at how the entertainment industry deals with intersectionality...and I really wanted there to be a...portrait of a powerful, amazing black woman and what she had to deal with in the industry.”
