Jay Leno Gave Kelly Clarkson a Tour of His Vintage Car Garage and She Couldn't Believe it was Real

From Woman's Day

Kelly Clarkson always hosts the most interesting celebrities on her talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show.

This week, The Voice judge introduced viewers to Jay Leno and his mind-bogglingly huge garage, which she refers to as a "palace" of cars. And, just a few seconds into the virtual interview, it’s clear to see why.

As the camera pans through an array of Jay’s vintage automobiles, Kelly admits to wishing she could be in quarantine with Jay right now, and we pretty much feel the same. She then has to stop and ask if this garage is really at his house, given its vast size.

“No, it’s not real, it’s all an illusion,” Jay jokes. “Yes, this is my garage. It’s 140,000 square feet.”

Kelly, like us, burst out laughing at the sheer absurdity of such a massive space, but once we got a peek at all the cars (and the adorable diner-like kitchen) within it, we couldn’t help but stare in wonder.

Standing in front of a pair of vintage 1950’s Hudson Hornets, Jay says, “Sometimes you buy the story as much as you buy the car.” He went on to share a story of how he came to own one of the Hornets, making viewers realize that—in addition to being a world-renowned celebrity—Jay is also a down-to-earth guy who simply loves restoring old cars.

Jay went on to show Kelly the first car he owned in L.A., which he’s restored to look brand new despite owning it since 1972.

“I met my wife in this car, we dated in this car, I got married in this car, I took this car to my first Tonight Show, to my last Tonight Show,” he said while looking lovingly at the shiny silver Buick. He went on to share a story that his wife hates about the car, but that he finds funny to this day.

“We had our first ‘encounter’ in this car,” Jay began. “On our 25th wedding anniversary, I said, ‘Let’s try and recreate that,’ . . . the second encounter wasn’t as successful as the first encounter, but we had a lot of laughs and it was pretty funny.”

If you’re entirely enthralled by Jay’s love of cars (and his stories about them), be sure to check out the latest episodes of his show, Jay Leno’s Garage, which airs on Wednesdays at 10 EST on NBC.
