Jason Mraz Is Done 'Broadcasting As Hetero' – And We're So Here For It

Jason Mraz is ready for a new chapter in his life.
During an interview back in 2018, Mraz came out as bisexual and explained that he had sexual relations with men even after already being married to Christina Carano, who was supportive of him experimenting with his sexuality. After being married for eight years, Mraz announced that he was divorcing Carano in June 2023.
Now, the “I’m Yours” singer is ready to fully embrace his queerness and leave heteronormativity behind him. Mraz told The Advocate in an interview:
“I will admit that I probably spent the first close to 20 years of my career just broadcasting as hetero. You know, saying ‘girl’ in my songs, and a lot of that is growing up on a conservative street. And growing up around homophobia and feeling like I needed to protect some secret.”
He added, “I was having these curiosities and experiences on the side that were starting to influence who I am and the kind of fun I wanted to have in the world and the kind of person I wanted to be in the world, which is more honest and more loving and more inclusive.”
Mraz released his eighth studio album, Mystical Magical Rhythmical Radical Ride, on June 23. Overall, this new project was influenced by dance music and has been hailed as Mraz’s big comeback to pop music.
