Jason Momoa May Return To DC Universe As A Different Character

Jason Momoa, famous for his roles in Game of Thrones and a number of DC movies, has been a mainstay in the DC universe for quite some time. Since his introduction in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Momoa’s role as Aquaman has become a fan favorite in DC movies. A new report suggests that Momoa might be retiring from the role in the near future — but that doesn’t mean he won’t be in DC movies anymore.

A new report from Variety has shed light on not only the apparently troubled filming of the upcoming Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, but also on Momoa’s inclusion in the DC Universe going forward. According to Variety’s sources, Momoa won’t be reprising his role as Aquaman in James Gunn’s rebooted DC Universe, but could be stepping into another role instead.

According to the report, none of the cast of Batman v Superman or Justice League will be returning in their roles when the canon is rebooted. Instead, Momoa is reportedly in talks to play the ruthless bounty hunter Lobo in future films, with sources suggesting that Momoa’s Lobo could make an appearance in the upcoming Superman: Legacy.

The report also says that Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, and Ezra Miller won’t be reprising their roles either, contradicting earlier reports that Gal Gadot would continue to portray Wonder Woman in future films. That said, some actors will be returning in familiar roles in the new universe, with Viola Davis continuing as Amanda Waller and John Cena returning as Peacemaker in future productions.

James Gunn recently cleared up the future DC Universe canon in a series of posts on Threads, confirming that films like Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom aren’t considered canon to the upcoming universe he’s building. Gunn said that the new canon would start with the Max series Creature Commandos next year, and then be built on with Superman: Legacy in 2025.
