Jason Beghe on Hank Voight Going A Little Crazy and the New Cast Joining 'Chicago P.D.' for the Season 10 Premiere

When Chicago P.D. returns for its 10^th season on NBC, Sgt. Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) is still reeling from the death of his informant Anna (Carmela Zumbado), and his team – the Intelligence Unit – is worried that he may be losing it, despite his assurances that he is just fine.

In a Zoom junket for the series premiere, Beghe told reporters, “He bounces back, but sometimes it's like a Super Ball. It doesn't bounce where you want it to bounce, but it does bounce. Where it bounces is the question, but he will do his best as always. It's just there's more stuff working against him, so that makes it interesting. There's no game without an obstacle.”

One of the things that may be working against him – or possibly for him – it remains to be seen – is the introduction of a new chief in the form of Patrick O’Neal (Michael Gaston), who Voight has history with.

“Patty does understand Voight and also his son is going to figure into it,” Beghe told Parade. “We have a wonderful actor Jefferson White, who is famous from Yellowstone, playing the role. They're both fantastic, so there's a lot of twists and turns ahead that are interesting in a police sense and in a personal sense, so both sides of my relationship with Patty O'Neal are being explored."

Another possible complication is the addition to the Intelligence Unit of a familiar face from the end of last season when Dante Torres (Benjamin Levy Aguilar), who has worked with the team before, but who Voight doesn’t necessarily want to add to his roster, becomes a permanent addition when O’Neal explains to Voight why it's a good thing.

"The actor who plays Dante Torres, honestly, is such an interesting, compelling and talented guy that the sky’s the limit,” Beghe says by way of explaining what Aguilar will add to the mix. “I think in Episode 3, he gets a chance to really sink his teeth into it and we get to really introduce him. You'll get to know him more as the character. There's a lot to come there.”

And Marina Squerciati, who plays longtime team member Kim Burgess, adds, “Art is imitating life in this instance. Dante’s a new person to not just the show, but the team and people ask: What is he like? As a team member, we don't know yet. We're all exploring that. He's wonderful. He's a wonderful being and it will be great but we're exploring what he brings to the team and how we all dance together in the bullpen.”

Marina also weighs in on Kim’s relationship with Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger), who at the end of Season 9 offered to help keep her and Makayla (Ramona Edith Williams) safe by moving them into the home that was formerly his father's. And to make his intentions clear, he stated that he would not move in with them.

“I think that in order to not upset the balance, he’s saying he was giving me the house, but I think all those things need to be addressed,” Squerciati explained. “I think they will be. In Season 2, Kim makes up her mind about the house. I think it's more of a decision. It’s more that she recognizes that Adam has grown and changed and is really a wonderful co-parent and how does she continue this relationship for Makayla.”

Chicago P.D. premieres its 10^th season tonight at 10 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
