Japanese figure skater Yuzuru Hanyu is single, so woo him with Winnie the Pooh plush toys
Yuzuru Hanyu, Japanese figure skater and 2014 Winter Olympics gold medalist, is set to return to the ice in the upcoming men’s competition this Friday following an ankle injury. A fall at November 2017’s NHK Trophy competition rendered the figure skater unable to practice for two months. At a press conference in the city of Gangneung on February 13th, Hanyu told reporters,
“There were two months where I couldn’t skate at all and that was tough. I actually did kind of wonder if it would get better.”
The 23-year-old athlete is adamant about reclaiming gold at the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang. Hanyu made history at the 2014 Sochi Olympics as the first male figure skater from an Asian country to win gold; he also surpassed the 100-point scoring with a 101.7. With an estimated net worth of $2 million and the nickname “The Prince” in Japan, the Sendai native appears to be flying high on and off the ice.
And, ladies and gentlemen, Hanyu is reportedly single.
According to a most recent article in Japanese entertainment publication ARAMA! JAPAN, Hanyu has denied all dating rumors, calling the reports that he was dating a former classmate “nothing.” Hanyu reportedly also apologized “for any distress this gossip may have caused” to his fans. Fans can also take solace in the fact that the 23-year-old athlete isn’t secretly married, an answer he addressed when a child inquired at a local school.
Winnie the Pooh is reportedly Hanyu’s good luck charm. The Olympic gold medalist was never without his Winnie the Pooh tissue dispenser, to the extent where it became his unofficial mascot. Because of this, fans would often throw Winnie the Pooh stuffed animals onto the rink after a performance. It’s true.
