Janice Freeman, a Season 13 contestant on The Voice, died on Saturday at the age of 33. Freeman’s team posted on her Instagram that the cause of death was pneumonia and a blood clot that had traveled to her heart. Freeman had previously battled numerous health issues including cervical cancer, lupus and meningitis.

Freeman was on Miley Cyrus’s The Voice team in 2017, and had two judges turn around — Miley Cyrus and Jennifer Hudson — during her blind audition. She ultimately placed in the top 11.

Freeman maintained a relationship with Cyrus even after she was no longer on the show, and posted a very emotional thank you to Cyrus in 2018 after the star helped her and her family financially.

Freeman was reportedly at home with her husband on Saturday when she started complaining that she was having trouble breathing. He called 911 and did CPR on Freeman until the paramedics arrived. She was pronounced dead at the hospital at 5:30 p.m.

Cyrus posted a tribute to Freeman on her Instagram story, with an image of a rainbow and the words, “This represents you perfectly.”

Jennifer Hudson also posted an Instagram remembrance, and included the video of Freeman’s audition and the words, “the voice of hers we got to hear and the bit of life we got to watch her live was a blessing and inspiration to us all!”

Freeman’s team posted an announcement of her death on her Instagram story, calling Freeman, “A survivor and fighter, and a beautiful force in this world.”
