Janet Jackson is notoriously private, but she’s opening up a little about her personal life in her new Lifetime and A&E documentary, JANET.

In the two-part special, which has been filmed over the last five years, Janet speaks about rumors that she had a secret child with her ex-husband James DeBarge in the 1980s (not true, she says.)

But the 55-year-old does have a child who was born more recently. Janet’s son Eissa Al Mana has largely been kept out of the public eye and, true to form, he doesn’t exactly feature prominently in his mom’s documentary.

But who is Eissa, exactly? Here’s everything we know right now.

He just turned five.

Janet recently celebrated the milestone with a sweet Instagram shout-out to her son. "You're growing up so fast. Such an intelligent beautiful boy,” she wrote. “Wishing you a life full of magical moments. You're Mama's Luv. Happy 5th Birthday baby!"

Famous friends chimed in with well-wishes, including Ciara who said, “We love you Eissa! Happy Birthday ❤️.”

He hasn’t been spotted in public much.

Janet shared a sweet photo of herself kissing a yawning Eissa back in 2017 when he was a baby, but she’s otherwise kept him out of the spotlight.

“I get bothered and recognized, but I do it anyway,” she told InStyle of taking Eissa out in public. “I just try to be cordial and smile. And just keep it moving, really.”

His dad is a billionaire.

Eissa’s dad is billionaire Wissam Al Mana, who serves as executive director of the Al Mana Group. Janet and Wissam met at a hotel opening in Dubai in 2010 and got married two years later—something they didn’t reveal until 2013, according to Entertainment Tonight.

He doesn’t have a nanny.

While Janet is a single parent—she and Al Mana split when Eissa was a baby—she said that she doesn’t have anyone helping her raise her son.

“My mother did it. Her mother did it. Why can’t I?” she said, per Grazia. “We’ll see. I’m sure I will need someone in the future, some help here and there, but I don’t have anyone [right now] and I love it. I’ve always been a patient person, but there’s more patience that you have to have [in motherhood] and I never knew I was as patient as I really am. He’s first and foremost in my life. I get up, I go to sleep—everything is about him. He comes first in my life.”

He loves music.

Janet shared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in 2020 that Eissa “loooves” music. “First he chose the violin. He loves classical music,” she said. Then, she shared, he upgraded to a cello after announcing that he really wanted one.

He has a lot of love in his life.

Janet gushed about her son in an interview with Billboard in 2018.

“My son has shown me that love, no matter how deeply you believe you have experienced that emotion, can always go deeper. Love is limitless,” she said. “And for someone like me, raised in show business where self-concern is always a priority, how fortunate I am now to be concerned, first and foremost, with the welfare of someone else. Day after day and night after night, holding my baby in my arms, I am at peace. I am blessed. I feel bliss. In those moments, all is right with the world.”
