Janelle Monáe is no stranger to the Grammys. The singer and rapper has received a total of 10 nominations throughout their career, including two for this year’s ceremony—which is good for us, because it means another red carpet appearance from the status quo shaker.

In unsurprising fashion, the trendsetter totally caught our attention in a custom-made Giorgio Armani Privé gown. The unique inky-black creation features a bustier bodice, with a deep neckline embroidered with black paillettes and a silver beaded trim, as well as black and silver crystals arranged in a floral shape along the waist.

We’ll be thinking about this fit while Monáe waits to see if they’ll take home the prizes for Album of the Year and Best Progressive R&B Album. Both nominations are for their fourth studio album, The Age of Pleasure.

“I wanted to create a soundtrack to our lifestyle,” Monáe told the Associated Press in July 2023. “I think this album, like all my albums, reflect[s] exactly where I am at that time. Each album will let you know where I was in my evolution process, what things I had to unlearn, what things I learned. I love that. I love that you can always look at an artist working, sort of see what they were on at that time.”

Monáe has been nominated for a Grammy for Album of the Year twice, for their 2018 solo LP Dirty Computer and for their appearance on Fun.’s 2012 album Some Nights. But despite seven nominations to date, if Monáe wins tonight, this will be their first time ever walking out with a Grammy.
