From Harper's BAZAAR

  • For his New York Fashion Week show, Ralph Lauren transformed a ballroom on Wall Street into Ralph's Club, a decadent Jazz Age nightclub.

  • Janelle Monáe performed a show-stopping set at the show to a star-studded audience.

  • Model sisters Gigi and Bella Hadid both served chic retro looks on the runway.

New York Fashion Week is underway and Ralph Lauren just created an unexpected experience for guests at his show.

Recreating a Jazz Age-era nightclub in lower Manhattan, the designer opened Ralph's Club for the night, and its entertainment did not disappoint. While the runway showcased the designer's takes on the tuxedo and the red carpet gown, the stage was taken over by the inimitable Janelle Monáe.

The Telegraph described Monáe's performance as "fierce and funky," revealing that the singer "clambered up onto tables, splashed champagne over the cheering audience and even crawled, Josephine Baker style along the floor and back up onto the stage." Instagram clips captured the energy exuded by the actress and singer, and showcased the stunning tuxedo dress she wore for the performance.

Notably, Monáe covered "Fly Me to the Moon," made famous by Frank Sinatra, which was perfectly apt for the occasion.

Monáe also perfectly channeled the era as she arrived at Ralph's Club wearing a glittering gown, which she accessorized with a pearl choker.

The Telegraph also noted Lauren's inspiration for Ralph's Club as being New York's famous Stork Club. Before it closed its doors in 1965, the jazz venue attracted everyone from Frank Sinatra to Cary Grant to Elizabeth Taylor. Ralph's Club drew a plethora of famous faces, too, including Henry Golding and Cate Blanchett, but it was Monáe's night as a jazz icon that won't be forgotten quickly.
