  • Jane Fonda revealed that her non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma is in remission and she is discontinuing chemotherapy.

  • The Grace and Frankie star shared the good news via Instagram last week.

  • I am feeling so blessed, so fortunate,” she wrote.

After announcing her non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma diagnosis in September, Jane Fonda says that her cancer is now in remission. And making the news all the more sweet, she has been given the green light to discontinue chemotherapy treatments.

The two-time Oscar winner, and now cancer survivor, shared the happy news on Instagram with a photo of her marching with fellow activists. She captioned the post: “LATEST BLOG POST: BEST BIRTHDAY PRESENT EVER!!!”

Fonda wrote: “Last week, I was told by my oncologist that my cancer is in remission and I can discontinue chemo. I am feeling so blessed, so fortunate. I thank all of you who prayed and sent good thoughts my way. I am confident that it played a role in the good news.”

Shortly after she announced her diagnosis, Fonda shared a health update, saying “lymphoma is not going to stop” her. And while her initial cancer treatments weren’t too taxing, she struggled with the effects of her recent chemotherapy treatments and says that she is glad to be done with them.

“I’m especially happy because while my first four chemo treatments were rather easy for me—only a few days of being tired—the last chemo session was rough and lasted two weeks, making it hard to accomplish much of anything,” the star wrote.

Fans were so happy for the star, showering her with love in the comments section. “Great news!!! Happy Birthday! Celebrate with those that love you!” wrote one fan. “Such great news!! You are amazing & provide wonderful activism for all of us. Continued blessings & happy holidays, ❤️🎅🏻🌲😍” commented another.

Ever the activist, Fonda used the celebratory news to call attention to a new climate change bill. She took the opportunity to note that during treatment, she still pressed on in her environmental activism and hosted Fire Drill Fridays in Washington, D.C.

“The effects [of the chemo] wore off just as I went to D.C. for the first live, in-person Fire Drill Fridays rally,” she wrote in the post. “Thank heavens for that because it was a busy week. Besides the rally, I did some lobbying and spoke twice at the Democracy Alliance all in an effort to stop Senator Joe Manchin’s side deal which climate activists call the Dirty Deal.”

From the beginning of her cancer journey, Fonda has been committed to learning from this experience. “Cancer is a teacher and I’m paying attention to the lessons it holds for me. One thing it’s shown me already is the importance of community. Of growing and deepening one’s community so that we are not alone. And the cancer, along with my age, almost 85, definitely teaches the importance of adapting to new realities.”

We’re so glad to hear that the Grace and Frankie star is now cancer-free! Fonda will be celebrating her 85th birthday on December 21st, and with this added reason to celebrate, we know that she’ll be doing so in style.
