Of all the Halloween movies that we love to watch come October, few are more iconic than the epic Halloween movie franchise. (The holiday is in the name of the title, after all!) The series—which consists of a total of 13 movies—famously stars Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode who is the unlucky target of the infamous serial killer Michael Myers. (Who has been played by more actors than there are films by the way.)

Fans of the franchise hardly need an explanation on the details surrounding Michael's vendetta against Laurie. However, even the most diehard Halloween fans may not know how Jamie ended up with one of the most iconic roles in the horror film genre.

In 2019, Jamie opened up about her audition process to The New Yorker, giving readers a more in depth perspective of how she earned the role of Laurie Strode all those years ago. (The first Halloween movie premiered in 1978!)

"I auditioned many, many, many times," she explained. "And then it was between me and one other woman, whose name I know but I will never say publicly."

Now, more than ever, is probably a perfect time to mention that—if you didn't already know—Jamie is the child of two Hollywood natives: Janet Leigh, who famously played Marion Crane from Psycho, and Tony Curtis, an actor who's career has spanned over six decades. Both have sadly passed—her mother in 2004 and her father in 2010.

Jamie openly and honestly attributes this fact as a prime reason to her getting the role in a franchise she had no idea would even be successful.

"I'm sure the fact that I was Janet Leigh and Tony Curtis' daughter, and that my mother had been in Psycho—if you're going to choose between this one and this one, choose the one whose mother was in Psycho, because it will get some press for you," she said. "I'm never going to pretend that I just got that on my own, like I'm just a little girl from nowhere getting it. Clearly, I had a leg up."

Jamie regularly posts about her mother and father on social media, usually sharing old photos with sweet words to remember her parents.

Recently, on October 3, she shared an old photo of the couple from their younger years with heartfelt caption to commemorate them. "Janet Leigh left us this day in 2004 and Tony Curtis last week in 2010," Jamie wrote. "Missing them both now for a long time..."

With her mother's iconic role in Psycho and her own role in the Halloween franchise, it's safe to say that Jamie is a part of Hollywood—and Halloween!—royalty.
