  • In a recent TODAY appearance, Jamie Lee Curtis discussed a gift she had sent co-host Hoda Kotb's children when illness struck her family.

  • The gift, from My Hand In Yours, also provided a donation to Children's Hospital Los Angeles.

  • Curtis recently won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Everything Everywhere All At Once.

“The only thing I do know is that we have to be kind. Please, be kind.”

That line, delivered by Ke Huy Quan's Waymond Wang in this year's Academy Award-winning Best Picture Everything Everywhere All At Once, sums up the overarching theme of the story: that kindness and compassion can make a difference. And in an appearance on TODAY, Jamie Lee Curtis, fresh off her Best Supporting Actress win for EEAAO, showed how she practices that ethos in her own daily life.

“I was opening packages in my apartment last night, all the Amazon stuff that you get,” TODAY co-host Hoda Kobt said during Curtis's March 14 appearance on the program. “And, Jamie Lee, I opened the package, and inside I saw two teddy bears and a beautiful ‘my hand in yours’ that you had given to my girls. And she said, ‘I know it was scary. This is for your girls.’ From you.”

Kotb had previously stepped away from TODAY for several weeks after her younger daughter, Hope, fell ill and was in the ICU. Hope has since returned home, and Kotb has resumed her hosting duties as of March 6. But she’s made certain to use her platform to express gratitude for all the support she’s received from friends and fans, saying, “Thank you … for all of your beautiful words and prayers” in a recent Instagram post.

Curtis's gift in particular did even more than just lift spirits. The aforementioned teddy bears came from My Hand In Yours, a charitable retail site for which Curtis herself curates the available items. Offering items ranging from beanies and candles to an autographed photograph of Curtis in her iconic role as Laurie Strode in Halloween Ends, the site offers gifts that also give back. That's because 100 percent of the profits from My Hand In Yours are donated to Children's Hospital Los Angeles.

“Listen, I get it. It’s the hardest thing in the world. There’s nothing scarier in the world than a sick kid,” Curtis said to Kotb regarding her recent family struggles. She continued:

“And that’s why I made My Hand In Yours, and that’s why I support Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, as you support your children’s hospital. This is what we do. This is what they do, 365 days a year, 24 hours a day. They show up for your family, so I was simply showing up for yours in the way I could.”
