Richard Lewis recently passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 27, and now his former costar Jamie Lee Curtis is paying homage to the actor in a big way: by crediting him with her sobriety.

The day following the Curb Your Enthusiasm star's death, the Scream Queens alum took to Instagram with an emotional post sharing what he meant to her. On Wednesday, Feb. 28, Curtis shared a gallery of images of the two together, alongside a lengthy caption explaining the impact Lewis had on her life.

“I’ve just read that my friend Richard Lewis has died,” the Oscar winner wrote, going on to recall remembering exactly where she was when she first saw him on a billboard and thinking he was "handsome."

The Halloween actress continued to share insight into how they first kicked it off, writing about how she "asked the casting people to bring him in to audition to play my best friend/maybe boyfriend, Marty Gold. I thought he was handsome. He made me laugh, which is the one thing that a strong, capable woman, can't really do for herself."

But maybe most powerful of all in her post, was the admission that Lewis helped with her addiction journey. "He also is the reason I am sober. He helped me. I am forever grateful for him for that act of grace alone," she wrote, admitting, "I'm weeping as I write this."

"Strange way of saying thank you to a sweet and funny man. Rest in laughter, Richard," Curtis added.

As Parade previously reported, Lewis died peacefully at his home in Los Angeles earlier this week after suffering a heart attack, a representative for the late star told The Hollywood Reporter on Wednesday, Feb. 28.
