Jamie Lee Curtis Has a New Children's Book on the Way

Jamie Lee Curtis might be a well-known actress, but she's also a prolific children's book author. In fact, Curtis recently announced that she has a thirteenth kids' book, Just One More Sleep, on the way.
In a statement released by publisher Philomel Books, Curtis explained, "The passage of time, how children relate to waiting, and patience are the themes at play in my newest book for children." The Associated Press reports that this is her first book with the company, an imprint of Penguin Young Readers, as her previous books were published under HarperCollins.

Curtis also shared that she was inspired to write the book, which will be illustrated by her longtime collaborator Laura Cornell, back in 2020. "The seed for this book was planted when I saw my 4-year-old neighbor, Betty, on Christmas Eve 2020 and I said ‘Santa is on his way!’" Curtis said. "She scolded me and said, ‘No Jamie, one more sleep, then Santa.’ That moment of her literal truth gave birth to this lovely book, which I hope will resonate with all families with young children."
The Halloween actress published her first children's book, When I Was Little, back in 1993. In 2018, she told Romper that inspiration for her books can come from anywhere, even comments on Instagram.
"My books come out of nothing, but it's obviously something I've been thinking about, and observing," she said. "I'm an actor, so I observe people."
Her 2018 book Me, Myself, & I: A Cautionary Tale explores the relationship many of us have with our phones, and Curtis said that an Instagram comment sparked the idea. As she told the outlet, Curtis posted a photo of herself on Instagram that she took using a selfie stick.
"And I wrote the caption, 'Mommy got a selfie stick.' I posted a picture, which is the picture in the back of the book, first one, and a friend of mine who is a writer commented and said, 'Is that a new children's book?' By the time the plane landed, it was a book." Effortless. Brilliant. Jamie Lee Curtis!
