Jamie Foxx is updating fans on his health after the star was hospitalized in April. The star is addressing the medical emergency that sent him to the hospital for the first time in a new Instagram video.

In the video, Foxx speaks about his time in the hospital and gets emotional while thanking everyone for their love and support. “Thank [you] a billion to everybody… been a long road but all the prayers great people and God got me through…. 🙏🏾🙏🏾❤️,” he captioned the post.

While details of what happened to send him to the hospital are sparse, the star offered a bit of insight. “I went to hell and back and my road to recovery had some potholes as well, but I’m coming back,” Foxx said in the video. He made it clear that what he experienced was difficult. “I went through something that I thought I would never ever go through,” he said.

The star detailed why he’s kept his health status secret and thanked his daughter, family, and doctors for their help while maintaining his privacy. “And I know a lot of people were waiting or wanting to hear updates, but to be honest with you, I just didn’t want you to see me like that, man,” he said. “I want you to see me laughing, having a good time, partying, cracking a joke, doing a movie, a television show. I didn’t want you to see me with tubes running out of me trying to figure out if I was going to make it through.”

Many of Foxx’s famous friends showed their support for him in the comments. “God is GOOD!!!!!!!! Sending love Jamie❤️❤️❤️," Viola Davis wrote. Tracee Ellis Ross commented, “Sending you so much love!!!” Will Smith chimed in with: “Awww Man!! Who’s cuttin’ onions?? Love U Foxx!! Your Light Is Needed ‘n Appreciated Right Now!”

Celebrities weren’t the only ones concerned about Foxx—fans flooded the comments with well-wishes for the actor. “Man, I was so worried about you for a minute,” one fan commented. “I’m very happy to hear you’ve turned a corner. Much love and get well, bro.” Another wrote, ”So glad you made it through!!!”

Fans were shocked when Foxx was hospitalized for an undisclosed reason in April. (The star’s newest movie They Cloned Tyrone, was just released on July 21 on Netflix.)

“I’m able to work, so I want to thank all the people who let me work,” Foxx said. “And I just wanted to say that I love everybody and I love all the love that I got.” The actor began to tear up, and revealed this was his first and only take of the video, and sometimes he bursts into tears “because it’s been tough.”

By the end of the clip, Foxx’s smile was and he was even joking about the rumors that he’s been cloned. The actor said he wants to be remembered for his jokes, movies, and music. Before turning off the camera, Foxx said one final “thank you” and left fans with hopeful words.

“I’m here on Earth because of some great people,” Foxx said. “I’m here on Earth because of God man. So, I love all of y’all. I just wanted to jump on here and let you know that I’m on my way back.”
