James Gunn Responds to Twitter Users Who Want Chris Pratt Fired 👀

Director James Gunn recently took to Twitter to defend Chris Pratt against people who were suggesting the actor's Guardians of the Galaxy character, Star-Lord, should be recast with someone new.
A viral tweet that has garnered over 208,000 Likes since it was posted on April 23 shows a side-by-side comparison of Chris Pratt and fellow actor Patrick Wilson along with the caption, “Marvel. Hear me out. Just...replace him.”
People were quick second the sentiment in the comments section, but the Guardians of the Galaxy director swiftly shut down the Twitter users by responding, “For what? Because of your made-up, utterly-false beliefs about him? For something that someone else told you about him that’s not true? Chris Pratt would never be replaced as Star-Lord but, if he ever was, we would all be going with him.”

But the discussion didn't seem to end there. One individual further questioned James's comment, bringing up church homophobia and asking whether that doesn't matter because Chris is ultimately “making money”—to which James replied the following:
He isn’t. I know the church he currently goes to. Do you? (The answer is you don’t, but you heard from someone who heard from someone who heard from someone where he goes to church, so decided, “yeah, okay, I’ll believe this terrible thing I heard online about this celebrity!”)

Fans have long accused Chris of being affiliated with a church that threatens LGBTQ+ rights, but Chris has denied this. In February 2019, he released a statement about his church after a comment from Elliot Page.
During a press tour for The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part in February 2019, Chris talked to Steven Colbert about a 21-day fast he took part in through Hillsong Church, and once the interview aired, Elliot took to Twitter to call Chris out.

Elliot then proceeded to double down on his thoughts, tweeting, “If you are a famous actor and you belong to an organization that hates a certain group of people, don’t be surprised if someone simply wonders why it’s not addressed.”
Chris, in turn, responded in a public statement:
“It has recently been suggested that I belong to a church which ‘hates a certain group of people’ and is ‘infamously anti-LGBTQ.’ Nothing could be further from the truth. I go to a church that opens their doors to absolutely everyone. Despite what the Bible says about divorce, my church community was there for me every stop of the way, never judging, just gracefully accompanying me on my walk. They helped me tremendously offering love and support. It is what I have seen them do for others on countless occasions regardless of sexual orientation, race or gender.”
Since the exchange though, Chris has continued to come under fire.
Guardians of the Galaxy 3 is still currently in production, with a release date slated for May 5, 2023.
