Without James Corden, The Late, Late Show with James Corden just ... isn't the same. But for a "couple of weeks," his fans will have to cope with not seeing the Carpool Karaoke star's hilarious antics.

As The Late, Late Show's executive producer Ben Winston declared on Twitter last Monday, James will be absent from the program beginning on December 9. While he's out, Harry Styles, Melissa McCarthy, Ken Jeong, Alicia Keys, Chance the Rapper, and Jeff Goldblum will be rotating in and out of the hosting chair. The announcement prompted strong reactions from viewers, many of whom seemed particularly pumped about the former One Direction bandmate.

"I NEED THE HARRY DATES SIR," one fan tweeted to Ben in all caps. "We'll miss James but what a present to us Harry Styles for Christmas," another said.

Wait, but where is James Corden going?

As it turns out, James will be taking some time off from the CBS late night show to work on his role in the upcoming comedy musical The Prom. Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman, and Awkwafina are also set to star in the 2020 adaptation of the hit Broadway musical.

"I’m gonna miss the @latelateshow for 7 nights to start shooting The Prom movie. These lovely folks will be keeping the seat warm from next week! X," he tweeted alongside an article announcing the guest-host lineup.

Beyond The Prom, James is also credited as a writer in the TV Series Game On! and in the musical 2021 adaptation of Cinderella. Plus, he'll likely also be busy promoting the musical film Cats, which hits theaters on December 20.

All of that aside though, it sounds like James won't be away for too horribly long. Still, we're sure he'll be dearly missed for the time being.
