James Charles Says He’s Not “Back to Normal” Six Months After Tati Westbrook Feud

  • James Charles says he’s not “back to normal” following his feud with Tati Westbrook.

  • James and Tati had a giant public fight stemming from James working with SugarBearHair.

It’s been 84 years six months since James Charles’s feud with fellow beauty vlogger Tati Westbrook, and, nope, James is not over it. Which, fair enough, I’m barely over it and I wasn’t involved. The entire thing was completely exhausting, and for James, it took a big mental toll.

The YouTuber opened up about how he’s doing in the wake of his feud in a new interview with Paper, saying, “I’m not mentally in a place where I want to be. What’s even harder to swallow is that it’s been six months since all the drama happened.” He added, “I thought by this time I’d be completely good—back to normal, if you will—and that’s not the case.”

James also reflected a little on cancel culture, saying, “We’re quickly getting to a point where cyberbullying, hating, and cancel culture is getting stronger. I can say firsthand, they got to me. I was so grateful to be surrounded by close friends and family that were checking on me all day long, every single day, in the middle of the night, every 10 minutes to make sure I didn’t do something that I could never take back.”

You can get a full rundown of what happened right this way, but here’s the TL;DR version: In April, James posted an Instagram Story promoting SugarBearHair, a direct competitor of Tati’s supplement company, Halo Beauty. That same day, Tati posted a lengthy, teary-eyed Instagram Story where she talked about feeling “used” and “betrayed.” Everyone assumed it was about James—and he tried to apologize publicly. Buuut then Tati released a 43-minute YouTube video titled “BYE SISTER...” completely eviscerating her former friend. It spiraled from there, and here we are!
