Before James Cameron set sail to bring the Titanic to life or immersed himself in the highest-grossing movie of all time, Avatar, he plunged into the depths of The Abyss in his 1989 film about a civilian diving team enlisted to search for a lost nuclear submarine.

It was his fourth feature film after his hits The Terminator and Aliens did so well but is often left out of the conversation when reeling off Cameron's accomplishments.

For one night only on December 6, audiences will get to experience The Abyss in theaters, remastered in 4K. James Cameron dropped the stunning trailer on his Twitter account, which showcases the spectacular restoration in all its glory.

The film stars Ed Harris, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, Michael Biehn, Leo Burmester, Todd Graff, John Bedford Lloyd, J.C. Quinn and Kimberly Scott, who face danger while encountering an alien aquatic species.
