The New York Times ran a big Kardashian interview this weekend, where Khloé Kardashian kind of addressed the criticism Jameela Jamil raised about the family promoting weight loss Flat Tummy shakes and tea.

Jamil, for reference, recently went viral for leaving this comment on a sponsored post Kardashian shared promoting Flat Tummy shakes.

"If you’re too irresponsible to: a) own up to the fact that you have a personal trainer, nutritionist, probable chef, and a surgeon to achieve your aesthetic, rather than this laxative product… And b) tell them the side effects of this NON-FDA approved product, that most doctors are saying aren’t healthy. Side effects such as: Possible Flat Tummy Tea side effects are cramping, stomach pains, diarrhea, and dehydration… Then I guess I have to. It’s incredibly awful that this industry bullied you until you became this fixated on your appearance. that’s the media’s fault. But now please don’t put that back into the world, and hurt other girls, the way you have been hurt. You’re a smart woman. Be smarter than this."

Kardashian responded defensively, telling the outlet that she’s never had a chef and that she posts all of her personal training sessions on Snapchat because she knows not everyone can afford a trainer. “Well, listen, I am showing you what to do, silly person, 15 repetitions, three times, here’s the move…” she said.

Kardashian's choice not to acknowledge the heart of Jamil's message-that her decision to promote products like this without giving any side effect detail is deceptive, encourages eating disorders, and harms women-was enough to fire Jamil up. The Good Place actress retweeted Cosmopolitan's article on what Kardashian said, writing the takeaway she got from Kardashian's comment: "Essentially, 'fuck the young, impressionable people, or those struggling with eating disorders, we want the money.' I have been given these same opportunities to flog this stuff, and I don’t do it, so they don’t have to. Thank you, next."

Then she got graphic: "Their pockets are lined with the blood and diarrhea of teenage girls..."

She also responded to a user who asserted it was the teenagers' fault for buying the product, not the Kardashians who promoted it. Jamil had a sarcastic response to that: "Yeah DUMB teenage girls with eating disorders. Be smarter. This is your fault little girls. Shame on YOU not the grown billionaire adults preying on your insecurity and fear. Preying on the patriarchal value that women are only valuable if their aesthetic meets societal standards."
