Meghan Markle has taken a deep dive into the stereotypes and criticisms that women face in the world of activism in the latest episode of her podcast, Archetypes.

The Duchess of Sussex kicks off the conversation with Jameela Jamil, exploring why women with ‘big ideas’ appear ‘audacious’ and are often victims of sexism.

A big activist for mental health and toxic body image messaging, Jameela took the opportunity to praise Meghan for being a voice for other women, claiming she fought on Meghan’s behalf when she received hate – before she even knew the Duchess.

Jameela also revealed a little unknown fact about how kind Meghan has been to those who need it. She admitted Meghan has reached out to her privately on different occasions over the years to show her support, something of which the media doesn’t report on.

Jameela added: “I want to thank you in a way that I probably didn't get to at the time but during some of my hardest moments where I'm being the most harmed by the media, and sometimes also by the public, you have been such an unwavering support to me.

“And people don't know that you frequently reach out to [other] women who are having a very very hard time privately. You reach out to us. You don't do it publicly. You don't come to get any glory, but you privately reach out to us in our most lonely and desperate moments.

“We need more of that in the world.”

During the same conversation, Jameela continued to highlight the importance of receiving, and giving, support. When Meghan asked what Jameela’s partner, singer James Blake, thinks about the criticism, Jameela took the opportunity to also praise her boyfriend's attitude towards her activism and how much it helps her to keep going.

“I think he really enjoys the fact that I'm not repressed in any way,” Jameela said. “He's incredibly supportive of me and he's been a big encourager of me to learn how to fight back and speak my mind and understand my worth.”

Jameela added that she knows Meghan has a “similar dynamic” with her husband, Prince Harry. She told Meghan: “Actually when the four of us met that one time it was a really sweet dynamic of two very similar relationships, and it was very nice for me to see that you have that in your home because you need it.

"Because it's an unfathomable amount of sh*t that you take Meghan, I can't believe it."

Jameela continued on to emphasise, "I was so outraged with the twisting of this very normal, very kind, very civilised woman. That demonization just shows how afraid they are of you."

Meghan didn't say anything towards the praise she was receiving, but thanked Jameela: “Well, thank you for fighting back.”

It goes to show kindness and support can go a long way!
