In a new Netflix documentary, YouTuber turned boxer Jake Paul accused his father, Greg Paul, of being “abusive” while he and his brother, Logan, were growing up.

Untold: Jake Paul the Problem Child was released on Netflix on Aug. 1 and covers Jake’s upbringing as well as his transition into professional fighting.

“My dad would slap the s*** out of me,” Jake alleged in the documentary. “I don’t resent it. I’m understanding of why he did that. That’s all he knew.”

The siblings grew up in a suburb of Cleveland and became famous for their pranking videos on the now-defunct social media platform Vine. In 2016, when the app shut down, they carried their fanbases over to YouTube and Instagram.

In an interview with Graham Besinger from March 2022, Jake opened up about his parents divorcing when he was in kindergarten and how afterward his father would give him and his brother Pop-Tarts and soap wrapped in newspaper for Christmas.

“At my dad’s house I couldn’t be myself; I was always on edge,” he said in 2022. “I definitely notice the effects it has now in my life.”

In the documentary, Jake claimed that it was his dad’s strict rules and toughness that motivated him and his brother to find more creative outlets through Vine and YouTube.

“[He] was so hard and so tough on us that my brother and I’s imagination really started to flare up,” he explained.

Logan agreed with Jake’s sentiments in the documentary and called their dad “a menace.”

“Jake may throw around the word ‘abusive’; I prefer ‘not quite legal,'” Logan said. “We’ve been through some s***, dude. It wasn’t fun, it was f***ing torture, bro. But when you survive that s*** you become tough as f***.”

Logan also shared that he thought Jake is still struggling with his relationship with his dad.

“Jake is still traumatized to this day about how my dad treated him,” he claimed. “They still don’t get along like they should.”

Greg also agreed to be interviewed for the documentary and denied he ever “laid hands on my kids.” He also named a number of times when he felt Jake had “shut me off with no warning.”

“I said, ‘Jake, I did pick you up and throw you on a couch a couple of times.’ That’s what the f*** dads are supposed to do,” Greg said. “Welcome to life, get the f*** over it.”

Logan claimed Jake dealt with a lot of pain over their father.

“It hurt Jake so much that my dad refused to acknowledge the physical hardship that he put us through when we were young,” he alleged.

Untold also went into several of Jake’s controversies since being in the limelight, including getting dismissed from his Disney Channel show in 2017, the FBI raiding his residence in 2020 and TikTok star Justine Paradise’s accusing him of sexually assaulting her.

“It’s not easy to be hated by the whole entire world,” Jake said in the documentary. “It creates a very dark mental place.”
