Jake Owen Was Asked About Theories That Taylor Swift's 'Sparks Fly' Is About Him...

Fans have been convinced forever that Taylor Swift's "Sparks Fly" is about Jake Owen, and the theory has once again popped up amid Speak Now (Taylor's Version) dominating the charts. And now? Now Jake is finally weighing in.

Speaking (now) to People, Jake said “It’s a great song and the speculation has always been funny to me. I’m sure Taylor probably laughs at it all too, but I’m happy to even have my name in the discussion around it.”

He added that he's “known Taylor since she was 16,” and is a big fan. “She’s an amazing girl and an amazing artist. It’s been incredible to see how she’s grown as a musician and what a global phenomenon she’s become.”

So why do people think that "Sparks Fly" is about Jake? Check out the below TikTok for a full breakdown of the theory via @alysssassyla, but basically Tay performed with Jake at a bar in Portland, Oregon, and then wrote a MySpace post about how amazing it was. She then apparently started playing "Sparks Fly" with the original lyrics "And I fall in love in an empty bar" (which she later changed), and on top of that, the easter egg in her liner notes for the song was "Portland, Oregon."
