2024’s Road House is not only a remake of the 1989 film starring Patrick Swayze, but also definitive proof that fun is back to the movies.

With Jake Gyllenhaal starring in the lead role of Dalton, this cast of Road House also includes Lukas Gage (Billy), Daniela Melchior (Ellie), and Conor McGregor (Knox), to name a few. Following its world premiere at SXSW, the film is now available for streaming on Prime Video — and the fans are living for it!

During an interview with Out, Gyllenhaal reminisced on the original 1989 Road House and broke down his approach to starring in the remake.

“Patrick Swayze originated the role, and the original movie is a classic,” the actor told Out. “It’s a cult classic. So many people love that film. But what I loved about the character (…) is that he was very still, and he observed until he couldn’t anymore. I loved that about him.”

Gyllenhaal continued, “It was fun knowing you could stay still, watch, and then all of a sudden you knew you were going to have a crew of a great stunt crew and a great director making this badass character look like he could do the job. It gave me tremendous confidence. And working with Connor, to be up against him and knowing that he was going to make it seem like we were equals in the fight space… that was also an honor.”

Gage and Melchior also spoke to Out about their roles in Road House. When asked how it felt to play Gyllenhaal’s love interest in the film and live out the dreams of so many girls and gays, Melchior replied:

“You know, my friends [have been] asking me that since the trailer came out, asking me how was it to kiss Jake… but I honestly don’t remember. We were shooting all day in the middle of the ocean, and I’m one of those people [who] can’t pee in the water when I’m at the beach or at a swimming pool. I need to go out and go do it outside. So basically all I remember from kissing Jake, I was just thinking, ‘I need to pee so bad. I need to pee so bad.’ (…) It’s sad, but yeah. That’s all I have to say about what I remember.”

Gage also opened up about working with Gyllenhaal in this movie — even though his character, disappointingly, did not get any love from Dalton.

“Well, we didn’t kiss, unfortunately,” Gage told Out. “There’s no kissing with Jake in this movie for me, but he’s the best. I mean, he is such an iconic actor. I grew up being obsessed with Donnie Darko and my character is a big fan of him, so I think that was a really easy transition… to be kind of fangirling over this guy who comes to our bar. He’s such a good dude and gives really helpful notes. As young actors, it was an honor.”
