Jake Gyllenhaal Predicts Whether He or OG 'Road House' Star Patrick Swayze Would Win in a Fight

Patrick Swayze was a breakout actor in the '80s thanks to his roles in hit movies like Dirty Dancing and The Outsiders. In 1989, Swayze starred in the action flick Road House opposite stars like Sam Elliott. Over three decades later, Road House has been reimagined in a new location with Jake Gyllenhaal at the helm, stepping into the role of Dalton first made famous by Swayze.

Gyllenhaal reflected on carrying on Swayze's legacy in a new interview with Collider. When asked whether his Dalton or Swayze's Dalton would win in a fight, Gyllenhaal was pretty confident in his answer.

"Well, we all know that 'Size doesn't matter' right from that movie, right? That is a line from the movie, the original movie," Gyllenhaal said.

Gyllenhaal's Dalton, unlike Swayze's, is a former UFC fighter, making his on-screen pairing with Conor McGregor that much more natural. As for who would come out on top in a fight, Gyllenhaal seemingly straddled the fence.

"Well, he'd certainly dance the s--t out of it, so I couldn't win there," he said of the Dirty Dancing star. "I think, due to technology and the advancements in technology, I'm going to say that I think that my Dalton would win. But if we were face-to-face in the '80s, I'd give it to Patrick."

"It depends on the decade," he concluded, adding "I would just say no one ever wins a fight." This pacifist standpoint is a stark difference from his character, who, like Swayze's, had a troubled violent past that bleeds into the present.

The new Road House is streaming now on Prime Video. The original is available to stream on Max.
