Jada Pinkett Smith Reveals Chris Rock Asked Her Out Amid Will Smith Divorce Rumors

On top of dropping the!!! news that she and Will Smith have been separated since 2016, Jada Pinkett Smith just revealed that Chris Rock asked her out on a date. Jada chats about the moment in her book Worthy, saying it happened amid rumors that she and Will were divorcing, and that Chris apologized afterwards.

Speaking about the moment to People, Jada said “I think every summer all the reports would come out that me and Will were getting a divorce. And this particular summer, Chris, he thought that we were getting a divorce. So he called me and basically he was like, ‘I'd love to take you out.’ And I was like, ‘What do you mean?’ He was like, ‘Well, aren't you and Will getting a divorce?’ I was like, ‘No. Chris, those are just rumors.’ He was appalled. And he profusely apologized and that was that.”

Meanwhile, Jada opened up about her separation from Will to Today host Hoda Kotb, saying that it wasn’t a “divorce on paper” but that “by the time we got to 2016, we were just exhausted with trying.”

“I think we were both kind of just still stuck in our fantasy of what we thought the other person should be,” Jada explained, saying that they “made a promise that there will never be a reason for us to get a divorce” and were were willing to “work through...whatever.”

“I just haven’t been able to break that promise,” she added.
