Jacques Torres Opens Up About How Nicole Byer Made Wes Famous on 'Nailed It!'

If you watch Nailed It!, you know about Wes.

The Netflix baking show's quiet behind-the-scenes guru is always there any time Nailed It! host Nicole Byer jokingly summons him. Though Wes, formally known as Weston Bahr, is a man of few words, he always makes pastry chef Jacques Torres chuckle and Nicole blush every time he walks in front of the cameras.

So, who is Wes from Nailed It!?

Over Nailed It!'s four seasons, curiosity has grown around Wes. Whether he's fetching Nicole a cocktail, forgetting the winner's trophy, or presenting a new stand mixer to one lucky amateur baker, Wes always remains completely silent. This, of course, only adds to his mysterious aura.

Here's what we do know: Wes is actually the associate director and stage manager for the show — in other words, he is not an actor. When Nailed It! first began, it was Nicole who brought him front and center on the show.

"Nicole somehow got this idea of calling Wes all the time. He is a good-looking guy and everybody likes to look at him. Am I correct?," Jacques told Vulture last year.

Meanwhile, Nicole elaborated on her idea for Wes's quiet-but-charming appearances on Nailed It!: "What happened was, they were like, 'And Wes is going to bring in the trophy.' And I was like, 'Then where is he? Where’s Wes?' Then it became a thing. Now I just abuse it."

And thus, the "Wes!" bit was born.

According to Nicole, Wes "secretly loves" all the attention he's received from the show. But his comedic role on Nailed It! is hardly Wes's only job. The stage manager is also a husband to his wife, Jess, and a father to their baby daughter named Rowan.

Behind the cameras, Wes has previously scored gigs as a producer on TV shows like Christmas Cookie Matchup, Rock the Block, and Gigi Does It. In terms of past directorial gigs, he has also worked on Top Chef and Flipping the Block.
