Jacob Elordi Arrived as a Fashion Darling on Saturday Night Live

During Jacob Elordi’s hosting gig on Saturday Night Live this past weekend, just about every sketch found a way to mention that he’s tall and good-looking—which, incidentally, also makes him an ideal candidate to showcase luxury clothing.

The Australian heartthrob has been on a press-junket heater lately, promoting his silver-screen roles in Saltburn and Priscilla as well as his small-screen turns on SNL and, eventually, back on HBO’s Euphoria, whose third season is slated to start filming this year. (“I hope it’s soon, or they’re going to have to Benjamin Button me or something,” 26-year-old Elordi told Jimmy Fallon last week, regarding the high-school drama’s indiscernible production schedule. “I’m going to have a bad back walking down the hallway, you know?”) But few celebrity opportunities are as purely centered on self-promotion as a hosting stint on Saturday Night Live, and Elordi has been moving—and dressing—accordingly.

In an ad spot with musical guest Reneé Rapp and SNL cast member Bowen Yang, he wore a strawberry-red cardigan from the trendy Los Angeles knitwear brand The Elder Statesman. For the episode’s promo portraits, he donned a floppy Armani suit, flared denim and a smart jacket from Bottega Veneta, and loafers by The Row. During his opening monologue, he opted for a nondescript Saint Laurent sweater and an elegant Cartier watch. And even in one of the sketches—a bit about a Bachelor-like dating competition show for “short kings,” which Elordi usurps with his 6’5” frame—Elordi plays a Pittsburgh dirtbag named Jackson, whose louche suit and svelte Chelsea boots grant him the scummy allure of a wannabe pickup artist who looks like he shops by bringing in red-carpet reference photos of Timothée Chalamet and, well, Jacob Elordi.

Days before Elordi’s big Studio 8H debut, his industry-veteran stylists Wendi and Nicole Ferreira posted a video depicting rows of collapsible clothing racks filling up a driveway, comprising a boutique’s worth of cool-guy contemporary menswear that puts Elordi in a coveted stance: simultaneously appearing lighthearted like a babygirl and serious like a leading man. (This position, you’ll find, is where Internet Boyfriends thrive.)

In the last six months, Elordi became a huge movie star in part because he dresses like one. Though he filmed his coinciding roles in Saltburn and Priscilla just three weeks apart, the latter received a temporary interim agreement that allowed its stars to publicly promote the film amidst the Hollywood writers’ and actors’ strike; Elordi in particular benefited from this concentrated time in the spotlight. While his peers sat on the sidelines, Elordi carried a Louis Vuitton Speedy bag at the Venice Film Festival, wore custom Valentino on The Tonight Show, and channeled Yves Saint Laurent on the cover of GQ magazine.

But over the last several years, he’s developed a persona as a memorable dresser. He attends fashion weeks in Europe, snagged a lucrative Tag Heuer watch deal, and frequently carries nice handbags. (Elordi’s inclination for little luxury bags would’ve made a great SNL skit!) Even as a first-time challenger, he was a fan favorite in our reader contest for GQ’s Most Stylish Man of 2023 who fell to frequent contender—and eventual winner—Chalamet in the third round. (For the real menswear knuckleheads, listeners of the podcast Throwing Fits crowned Elordi as the year’s most stylish celebrity.)

To be sure, being known as a stylish guy in Hollywood is a plum position—and while Chalamet waited years before inking his first luxury brand partnership, Elordi’s high-fashion moment feels nigh.
