Jacob Anderson Says ‘Game of Thrones’ Ending Is a Huge Shocker
Game of Thrones fans, what's your take? Daenerys has to end up on the Iron Throne, right? She has dragons, walks through fire, and has shown she can rule on the battlefield. It’s just obvious. Right?
Well, maybe not. On the Emmys red carpet on Monday night, Nathalie Emmanuel and Jacob Anderson, who play Missandei and Grey Worm, just kind of muddied the waters about the eighth and final season, coming up next year.
“I was really surprised by the ending,” Anderson told ELLE.com. “I really like it, but I was really surprised. I didn’t expect it. I didn’t see it coming.”
Yikes! But it's even more worrying when you find out who they were rooting for.
“Daenerys. Team Daenerys all the way,” Emmanuel said.
“Dany,” Anderson agreed. “Dany and Emilia. We’re just rooting for Emilia.”
So if we know they were shocked by the finale, the odds don’t look too good for the Mother of Dragons, do they? That's very worrying.
But don’t panic yet. Emmanuel said we’re going to love what happens, either way.
“I think they tell the story so, so well, that you can’t help but love it no matter who you were rooting for in the end,” she said. “Game of Thrones is known for shocking, it’s known for surprising, it’s known for breaking your heart into a million pieces, and then building it up again-putting you back together, sort of. So you’re used to that at this point, and I think that’s also true for season eight.”
So will Dany just ride off on a dragon into the sunset with her sort-of nephew Jon Snow? Will she lose her head (literally)? What will happen to all that expensive hair? We dread to think. But in the meantime, Emmanuel and Anderson reassured us that our favorite lady-in-waiting and Unsullied warrior will have some amazing scenes together-though the exact content of them still remains top secret. Boooooo.
Fans can rest assured that they're not the only ones who are gutted at it all coming to an end. Apparently, basically everyone cried on the last day of shooting, including Anderson. But then, he’s still not over Ned Stark’s death in season 1, so he might be a little sensitive.
“I was like, ‘What? What do you mean? I just spent ten hours falling in love with this guy, and then he’s gone,” he said of Stark’s shock early beheading.
But still, all that crying aside, the Emmys will be one big dance party for all the GoT cast-perhaps especially after Peter Dinklage's Supporting Actor Emmy win.
“I feel like we see each other at things like this, and it’s really nice to get to hang out and have a dance together or something,” Anderson said. “It’ll be all of the Game of Thrones people-it won’t be hard to find us. We’re really loud and British.”
