Beauty influencer Jaclyn Hill just clapped back at her haters in quite possibly the best way ever: with her Halloween costume. The 29-year-old YouTuber, who was the victim of intense cyberbullying after her infamous "failed" lipstick launch, wore an elaborate, fake-blood-spattered ensemble inspired by the internet's aggressive "cancel culture." Now, she's taking to social media to address the costume and its meaning.
Hill showed off her full Halloween look on Instagram this Monday, October 28, along with a lengthy caption that explains how she's been impacted by cancel culture and society's willingness to deem someone "canceled" when they make a mistake. In regards to the costume, she writes, "I wanted to create a look showing the glam side of this industry & the ugly💀So here is it. You want me canceled? You got it baby. And I know my 'haters' are going to HATE this costume. But that’s okay, I love you anyway💋."
As People reports, Hill had the costume designed by Bryan Hearns in a matter of five days, as she decided to throw a last-minute Halloween party. "It was a commentary on cancel culture and how easy it is to be canceled for some drama, especially in the YouTube space," Hearns tells the publication.
While some people are continuing to hate on the YouTube star, many others support the move and are applauding her for having a good sense of humor about everything. Fellow beauty influencer Amanda Ensing commented, "PERIODT 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼" on Hill's post, while fans left comments like, "EMBRACE IT BABY. hate u cuz they ain’t u. love you ❤️❤️❤️❤️" and "Most iconic look ever 🤩."
It's safe to say Hill definitely made a statement with her Halloween costume this year — hopefully, it can serve as a much-needed reminder that we all need to be kinder to one another, too.
