Jackson Hole Announces Opening Day For Winter '23-'24

I'm fully aware that it's still summer, but we've officially reached the part of the year where ski resorts begin trying to drum up excitement about skiing again.

Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, Wyoming, jumped on the hype train today, August 16th, reminding skiers via an Instagram post that their anticipated November 24th, 2023 opening is only 100 days away.

At the end of last winter, JHMR revealed that it had renegotiated its permit with the Bridger-Teton National Forest Service, allowing for an additional week of lift-serviced skiing this upcoming season. Previously, JHMR couldn't stay open past April 9th, regardless of conditions, as per permit requirements.

Now, with the extension, the resort plans to be open from November 24th, 2023, to April 14th, 2024, for a total of 143 days -- the most skiing and riding JHMR has ever offered in a season.

Of course, it's important to consider that, as always, snow conditions could impact this planned skiing and riding window. The classic "weather and conditions permitting" caveat applies here and to every other resort in the world.

Regardless, the prospect of 143 days at JHMR is exciting. Last season, the resort had killer conditions when they were forced to close on April 9th, so the bonus week this upcoming winter could deliver the goods.

But that's enough speculating from me. I'll leave predicting the weather to those who, y'know, actually know how to predict the weather.
