Jackie Kennedy’s sister, Lee Radziwill, lived her life (and I imagine still does) as though she were the belle of every ball. At 85 years old, she still loathes being referred to as Jackie’s sister (sorry, Lee!), and has done everything imaginable to skirt the former First Lady’s shadow.

The ever-strategic Lee wed three times — the second of which granted her the title of Princess, and the third catapulted her into an arguably higher social strata: Hollywood royalty.

Radziwill married Oscar-nominated director Herb Ross in 1988, and with it got a front-row seat to the hottest premieres the world over— figuratively speaking, that is.

Such was the case at the London premiere of Steel Magnolias. The star-studded event included a meet-and-greet with the London-based guests of honor: Princess Diana and Prince Charles.

According to the Lee and Jackie biography The Fabulous Bouvier Sisters, trouble arose when Radziwill found her seat at the screening.

“Lee balked at the seating arrangement, which had the film’s principals in the front row with spouses in the second,” Sam Kashner and Nancy Schoenberger write. “This was unacceptable for Lee … so she immediately took one of the seats in the front row, between her husband and Prince Charles. Lee had actually stolen Julia Roberts’s assigned place, and the film industry representatives were livid.”

Making the situation all the more uncomfortable, Julia whispered to Lee that she’d sat in the wrong spot, and Lee ignored her.

The end result? Princess Diana and Prince Charles actually had to move, while Olympia Dukakis and “a now tearful Julia Roberts” were forced to find other seats.

Eek.

While she's no longer a legitimate Princess we’ll always consider Lee the Princess — nay, Queen — of Shade.
