If you're not a fan of combat sports—but, you know, broadly follow politics and/or the misadventures of a certain former president—you might've missed an odd story from the weekend.
During UFC 290, which took place at Las Vegas's T-Mobile arena this past Saturday night, Donald Trump made his way into the crowd—and received a reaction I can best describe as... loud noises? Which is fine! But as the card unfolded that night, Trump held court: interacting with both an unsurprising and surprising group of celebrities. He appeared to communicate with Joe Rogan, Mel Gibson, Mark Wahlberg, and Guy Fieri. (Et tu, Fieri?!) Of course, we don't know what was said, but it hasn't stopped criticism of those who chose to associate with Trump—notably, from legendary musician Jack White. In an Instagram post yesterday, he wrote:
Anybody who "normalizes" or treats this disgusting fascist, racist, con man, disgusting piece of shit Trump with any level of respect is ALSO disgusting in my book. That's you Joe Rogan, you Mel Gibson, you Mark Wahlberg, you Guy Fieri. This is a statement from me, not a discussion/debate.
This isn't the first time—and certainly not the last—Trump has drawn criticism for enjoying and/or meddled in sports. Just this Sunday, LIV Golf moved its championship from Royal Greens Golf & Country Club in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to Miami's Trump National Doral Golf Club, which is owned by Trump.
