Jack Black Is 'Ready' for a Sequel to One of His Most Popular Comedies

Many people were first introduced to Jack Black as Dewey Finn, the rockstar-turned-substitute teacher who recruits his students to form a rock band in 2003's School of Rock. In the years since then, School of Rock has lived on in various forms, including a Tony-nominated Broadway musical helmed by Andrew Lloyd Webber and a full-blown TV series that aired on Nickelodeon.

Reboots, remakes, and long-awaited sequels abound in the movie industry today, and some fans have been clamoring for a new School of Rock movie for years. When asked by JOE about whether or not we'll ever see a School of Rock sequel, Black confirmed that he's down to return to the School of Rock cinematic universe.

"I wish there’d be a School of Rock 2: Electric Boogaloo," he said, nodding to the title of the 1984 Breakin' sequel Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo.

"I’m ready," he added.

The original film was written by and starred Mike White, who's since become a three-time Emmy Award winner with his smash HBO series The White Lotus. White also worked as a writer on the TV series. Given White's talent and undeniable resume, Black would only want to revisit School of Rock if White was on board.

"Mike White wrote the first one and he’s a genius," he said. "And we’d have to have Mike White back in the saddle, but he’s real busy right now with [TheWhite Lotus, the best show on TV."

Only time will tell if the band will get back together—no pun intended.
