The Super Mario Bros. Movie made bank at the box office, but are they rushing to make a sequel?

Jack Black told Variety that "It has been radio silence" from Universal Pictures and Illumination, the studios behind the film that grossed $1.3 billion at the box office this spring.

Black said on the Awards Circuit Podcast, "The only chatter has been coming from me, and I don't even know if I'm allowed to chatter. I've been chomping at the bit to get back to business."

His song, Peaches, which he co-wrote for the movie with Aaron Horvath, Michael Jelenic, Eric Osmond, and John Spiker, scored a Golden Globe nomination last week.

It wasn't even until they were deep into making the film that the song came about, Black revealed. "They sent me a 30-second nugget of an idea, and it was hilarious. So I fleshed it out, added some lyrics and melody, and they loved it. And by God, they put it in the film. I couldn't believe they did," he said.

All of this has Black daydreaming about what the sequel might look like, saying, "I think it should be a full musical, like what Todd Phillips is supposedly doing with Joker 2".

His title suggestion? "Bowser's Revenge".
