  • Memphis Grizzlies player Ja Morant is currently in the middle of a 25-game suspension

  • He took some time to visit his alma mater, Murray State University

  • While there, he gifted Nike Ja 1s to the college's men's and women's basketball teams

Memphis Grizzlies player Ja Morant is currently amid a 25-game suspension for "conduct detrimental to the league." Though, in fairness, how could he have known that being live-streamed holding a handgun was a no-no?

You know, except he'd already been suspended two months before for flashing a handgun during a livestream. But beyond that one little thing, how could he have known?

The point is that Morant has been in hot water recently, and his public image has definitely taken a hit. But his path to redemption starts where it all began for him, at Murray State University, where Morant was once a student.

As Sports Illustrated reported, Ja Morant visited the basketball teams at his alma mater. And he didn't show up empty-handed.

No, wait, hang on. That makes it sound like it's yet another firearm. We need to clarify it was not. The only thing "fire" about what Morant brought were some totally lit kicks! And you can't get a 25-game suspension for handing out shoes.

As the article notes, Morant "gifted the entire program Nike Ja 1s." Morant hooked up the women's and men's team members with the pricey pairs of shoes, paying it back to the college and the community that helped him cultivate his skills. For their part, the Murray State Racers view Morant as "the best player who came out of the college," so it stands to reason that his return to the campus was an inspiring moment for these young athletes.

So good on you, Mr. Morant. A little more gifting and a lot less livestreaming, and you should be back on the court in no time.
