Ivy and Green Hackensack luxury apartment complex on the river now leasing

HACKENSACK — The second building in a large apartment complex built on the bank of the Hackensack River has opened with 168 units and has begun leasing. The development is the latest luxury apartment building to open in the city in recent years.

The first 221-unit building in the Ivy and Green development at 1 Park Ave., opened last year and is fully leased, said David Hornblass, a principal at Hornrock Properties, the developer behind the project.

The location offers the convenience of being steps away from downtown Hackensack and public transportation, paired with access to Foschini Park and views of the river just behind the building, Hornblass said.

The six-story building has a mix of 48 studio apartments, 81 one-bedrooms and 43 two-bedrooms, with rents starting at $2,300, and going up to $4,000.

The studios and one-bedrooms have been popular because of their size — about 800 square feet — making them larger than many similar apartments in the area, Hornblass said.

“People are moving in every day,” he said. “It’s a quiet building right on top of Foschini Park with great access to lots of outdoor amenities.”

Other nearby recreation attractions include Bowler City, the Ice House and a rock climbing gym on River Street.

The development was built on a municipal lot the city sold to the developer. To replace the parking spaces lost by building on the former municipal lot, 200 spaces are available to the public on the ground floor of a parking garage in the first building. The second floor of the garage is private for residents.

The second building offers amenities including a separate full gym, separate coffee bar and lounge, its own concierge, two large exterior courtyards with furniture, fire pits and barbecues, a lounge and club room and covered parking.

That’s in addition to the amenity space in the first building, including a pool and sundeck, barbecue grills, pizza ovens and dining areas, and a rooftop deck with bars, televisions and firepits, that are open to all residents.

There is also an outdoor movie screen and lawn on the roof, billiard lounges and an arcade, a fitness center and children's playroom, working spaces like library nooks and private conference rooms and a music studio with guitars and a stage.

“It’s a convenient and walkable location in a quiet environment,” Hornblass said. “We're excited to be in Hackensack and opening up another apartment building.”
