Twitter reacts to Ivanka Trump praising husband Jared Kushner for work on criminal justice reform

Ivanka Trump shared a celebratory message after the Senate passed the FIRST STEP Act on Tuesday night, and she praised her husband, Jared Kushner, for his involvement in the making of the “biggest overhaul to the criminal justice system in decades.” Meanwhile, critics are telling her she’ll be lucky if it gets signed into law considering her family’s ongoing legal troubles.

In posts to both Instagram and Twitter, the president’s daughter and senior adviser wrote about the “vision, grit and elbow grease” that it took to secure bipartisan support, and included a photo of Kushner on the phone to illustrate that effort. Commenters, however, didn’t find the post inspiring. Instead, many found it a strange coincidence, as the New York attorney general accused the Donald J. Trump Foundation of “a shocking pattern of illegality” on Tuesday.

One person even suggested the hypocrisy of the administration’s push to pass the bill, which is expected to help some prisoners get early release, while migrant children and families are being detained at U.S. borders.

Still, some are praising Trump for the work that her family has put into criminal justice reform, saying that it’s one problem that all Americans may be able to connect on.

“I think that my poor family your rich family may have at least one thing in common… We have a problem with our Justice System,” one person commented on Instagram.
