Issa Rae Is Voting for "Everybody Black"—Apart from Kanye West—in 'SNL' Skit

Issa Rae hosted Saturday Night Live this weekend, and she took the opportunity to reference one of her most iconic red-carpet moments.

Fans will recall that, at the 2017 Emmy Awards, Rae famously told Variety that she was "rooting for everybody Black," when asked who she wanted to win at that night's ceremony.

In a nod to her epic answer, Rae appeared on a sketch called "Your Voice Chicago," about local politics. Her character revealed that she would be "voting for everybody Black" when it came to political candidates. She explained, "For too long, our people's voices have not been heard. It's our duty to stand together and take our power back."

At the end of the discussion, the host told the audience, "When we come back, we'll talk about the presidential race between Donald Trump, Joe Biden, and Kanye West." Rae's character hilariously retorted, "Kanye? F him!"

Throughout her career, Rae has been outspoken about lifting up Black voices and creators. During the Emmy Awards in September 2020, Rae opened up about her first ever Hollywood TV pitch meeting. She explained, "My first Hollywood pitch was kind of unofficial," she began. "Basically, I had this web series. It was the third web series I had ever made. The executive was like, 'Yes, I saw your show. Funny stuff, funny stuff.' And I was like, 'Um, thank You.' And he's like, 'Yeah, it's about this Black woman and her Black woman problems. Hilarious.' And I was like, 'That's not what it's about, but okay.'"
