The Iron Claw Trailer

Zac Efron is looking seriously swole in the debut trailer for The Iron Claw. He joins The Bear star Jeremy Allen White in A24’s upcoming drama about a prestigious wrestling family.

That family is the Von Erichs, who rose to the top of sports entertainment in the ‘70s. Not least due to their domineering father, Fritz Von Erich (Mindhunter’s Holt McCallany), who pushes his boys to the brink in pursuit of glory.

Efron packed on the pounds to play family figurehead Kevin Von Erich, who’s joined in the ring by his brothers Kerry, David and Mike. As the trailer shows, at one point there’s a tragedy, with one of the brothers’ deaths leaving a profound impact.

The film’s name comes from their signature wrestling hold, The Iron Claw, but it could equally be applied to their view of their dad, who has them in a vice-like grip. “We all now Kerry’s my favorite, then Kev, then David, then Mike. But the rankings can always change,” says the father, not afraid to rank his own children.

The Iron Claw hits cinemas 22 December. Speaking of muscle men, Jason Momoa is set to play a new DC superhero.
