Irene Kim Showed How She Uses a Cold Spoon to Depuff Her Eye Area

There are countless eye creams and masks on the market that help assuage the appearance of puffy eyes, but believe it or not, a cold spoon can work wonders, too — especially if you're in a pinch and currently out of your favorite product. Just ask model and social media star Irene Kim, who recently revealed in Vogue's Beauty Secret series that she uses cold spoons on her skin every day to tackle puffiness. It's a simple trick that takes no more than 60 seconds. Plus, it won't cost you a penny.

The skin-care technique is similar to one you might find folks raving about on Reddit's r/SkincareAddition, but it's got the expert seal of approval, too. "Applying cool spoons under the eyes can help reduce puffiness [because] the cool temperature constricts blood vessels and the pressure of the spoon against the skin enhances lymphatic drainage of excess fluid," says board-certified dermatologist Joshua Zeichner.

What's more: Adam Friedman, a board-certified dermatologist based in Washington, D.C., says that in addition to reducing puffiness, cold spoons can help reduce itchiness in the eye area. "The cooling effect from spoons helps with itching, which can worsen puffy eyes due to rubbing them," he explains.

Kim reaches for her cold spoons after using a Korean sheet mask and applying her go-to vitamin C serum — the famed SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic. "This is my super-secret beauty tool," she says. "You don't need any fancy tools — I keep it in the fridge for a couple of minutes and then just depuff." Aside from her eye area, Kim also uses the chilled kitchen utensil to depuff her cheeks and sculpt her jawline. "It really helps with blood circulation and draining the lymphs," she says before applying her favorite moisturizer, Zeroid's Soothing Cream, in the video.

All this to say: Next time you wake up with a puffy face, take a cue from Kim and try this incredibly easy cold spoon trick.
