  • Ireland Baldwin, 26, shared with her IG followers that she recently tried out a new minimally invasive cosmetic face contouring procedure called FaceTite.

  • The procedure tightens skin and reduces fat without surgery or a long recovery.

  • Here's everything you need to know about FaceTite.

Ireland Baldwin kept it super real with her followers over the weekend. She shared two selfies of herself sporting compression garments after receiving a cosmetic face contouring procedure, FaceTite, and another IG video this week explaining her decision.

The first post was a solo shot, followed by one with her cousin and fellow model Alaia Baldwin Aronow, who also got the procedure done.

The model captioned the second post, "Cousins who facetite together, stay together. Shoutout @drmichaelkim ✨."

In her video, Ireland said she chooses "to be as open and transparent about these kinds of things" for her followers "because I don't want to be misleading."

Fans praised Ireland, Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger's 26-year-old daughter, for being open about the procedure. One fan cheered her on: "👏👏👏👏 we love a transparent shameless queen 👏👏👏👏." Another added, "Adorbs! You both make recovery look so chic!" A few others expressed excitement over the eventual reveal of Ireland's final FaceTite results, and TBH, I'm just as curious.

Inspired in part by Camila Cabello's recent Insta posts about her struggles with social media and body image, Ireland wrote about her own insecurities in a long post leading up to the procedure. She told her followers she has been "insecure AS F*** about my chin" and that she's "getting that fixed soon."

But I know you're all wondering: "What even is FaceTite?" Lucky for you, Women's Health did some digging to get you the answers. You're welcome!

So, what is FaceTite?

Dr. Michael Kim, the facial plastic surgeon who Ireland tagged in one recovery photo, describes the procedure on his website as a minimally invasive, non-surgical treatment that can give patients mini facelift-like results by tightening skin and reducing fat without the scars, downtime, and cost.

Healthline notes that the procedure is meant to primarily target the lower half of the face, hence the compression garments wrapped around the lower half of Ireland's head and chin.

For targeting smaller areas of the body like eyebrows and folds of fat around the mouth, you can opt for a similar procedure called AccuTite.

Ireland explained in her IG video that the procedure was an hour-long, in-office procedure.

How does FaceTite work?

After the application of local anesthesia or light sedation, doctors use a device to create a small incision in the skin. While under the skin, the device emits vibrations that liquidate fat cells while also tightening the skin. The procedure then uses a liposuction tube to remove the liquidated fat. (Hence the technical name: Radio-Frequency Assisted Lipolysis, or RFAL.)

Ireland said in her video that she opted for FaceTite because of a "very stubborn pocket of fat and extra skin" under her face that she couldn't get rid of.

How long does it last?

While most surgeons estimate that the results last for about a year after healing, you can see a difference as long as five years post-op. So, if someone likes their FaceTite results, they might have to return to their surgeon to redo the procedure after five years.

Healthline reports that most patients spend anywhere between $1,500 and $7,000 on the procedure. Still, it's less invasive and costly than getting an actual facelift, which is on average $7,000 (not including hospital fees).

Dr. Kim also notes that the procedure is "not a replacement for surgery" on his site.

Are there any side effects?

While infections and scarring are a possibility, you're far more likely to see bruising and swelling with a bit of discomfort. Compared with a traditional facelift, the healing time is super fast.

One study conducted by the PRS Global Open in 2016 shows that most patients were able to return to work just two days after the procedure. However, it's worth noting that the study group consisted of people ages 35 to 61. The report also mentions that 9% of those patients developed tissue hardness in the treated area that eventually went away with massage.
