Hilaria Baldwin's been accused of pretending to be Spanish and faking an accent.
Hilaria's step-daughter Ireland Baldwin has come to her defense, calling critics “sad and pathetic.”
Unless you managed to completely avoid the news over the holiday weekend (which, congrats), you likely noticed that Hilaria Baldwin's name spent a lot of time dominating headlines due to accusations that she's been pretending to be Spanish this entire time. TLDR: a Twitter user put together a pretty !!! thread claiming that Hilaria is not from Spain, that her real name is Hillary, and that she's potentially been faking an accent.
Here she is pretending not to know how to say cucumber in English 😭 pic.twitter.com/g8xYNktsNY

“I was born in Boston and grew up spending time with my family between Massachusetts and Spain. My parents and sibling live in Spain and I chose to live here, in the USA. We celebrate both cultures in our home — Alec and I are raising our children bilingual, just as I was raised. This is very important to me. I understand that my story is a little different, but it is mine, and I’m very proud of it."
FYI, Twitter was largely unimpressed by this response:
Watched all 7min of Hilaria’s explanation and it was a lot of “well my family vacationed in Spain and I speak Spanish” but still zero explanation as to why she pretended she didn’t know the word “cucumber” in English on national TV which I’d like an entire documentary about.

Remember when Hilaria Baldwin (née Hilary Hayward-Thomas) was like “how you say in English, uh, ‘cucumber’” ?

Meanwhile, Alec Baldwin posted this video:
And now his daughter, Ireland Baldwin, has hopped online to defend her stepmom, calling Hilaria's critics “sad and pathetic” and saying “She’s a caring person who has always respected my relationship with my dad and I have a great relationship with her."
Ireland also posted a comment on Hilaria's video saying “I wish people had the chance to know you and know your story the way that I do rather than from a fabricated nine hour long Instagram story. I think you are an incredible mom and an inspiration. I know what it’s like to have a really awful piece of s–t woman in your place trying to be my stepmom… And I thank God often that the stars aligned and I wound up with a stepmom like you.”
That's all for now (emphasis on for now)!
