iPhone X FaceID Facial Recognition Worries Makeup Lovers

“The difference is real.”

Ever since Apple announced every single feature of the upcoming iPhone X, the Internet has been particularly fixated on one particular change: FaceID. The futuristic upgrade is essential some very advanced facial recognition software, allowing you to unlock your iPhone without using your fingerprints (which you won't be able to do anyway, since there's no home button on that model). Naturally, Twitter has reacted to the announcement pretty much how you would expect it to — with a ton of questions. And while some have worried about the possibility of anyone being able to unlock your phone by pointing it at your face while you sleep, others are asking the real questions: What does this mean for our beauty routines?

According to PopSugar, your favorite glam gurus like Kandee Johnson and NikkieTutorials are questioning what an extreme strobe, dramatic lashes, and an expertly blended smoky eye will do to the software. "Will face recognition recognize me without makeup or will i have to at least put lashes on every time I wanna open my phone," mused Twitter user @QueenLesli.

While we definitely appreciate the breadth and depth of the FaceID makeup jokes currently populating Twitter, rest assured that you won't have to worry about reaching for your face wipes every time you want to use your phone. As Apple explained earlier this week, the software will be able recognize you whether you change your hair, wear glasses, or sit in the dark. Plus, it even adapts to how your face changes over time — meaning you can breathe a sigh of relief, even when you're rocking full-on SFX looks.
