Invasion: Season 2 Trailer Beams Down

The timing couldn't be better. With whistle-blowers in congress spilling the beans on crashed alien craft, there’s another kind of invasion happening on Apple TV+.

Invasion: Season 2 sees humans and aliens finally square off. It’s been brewing for a while. Where 2021’s first season teased an impending touch down, told from the perspective of characters across the globe as they discovered crop circles and weird objects in the sky, now it appears we've made contact. Quite a lot of contact, in fact.

In the first trailer for season 2, a narrator tells us it’s been 121 days since the aliens invaded. “We have suffered, we have sacrificed,” she says, as scenes show citizens fleeing, streets burning, and thousands of ‘missing’ posters adorning the walls. To cap it off, one of them is Sam Neil (he plays Sheriff Jim Bell Tyson). It’s all looking a bit desperate.

We’re also treated to some juicy close-ups of the aliens themselves. They’re sort of shape-shifting black masses that cling to scenery and pull themselves through the environment using rapidly generating tentacles - a different threat entirely to the antagonists in upcoming sci-fi film The Creator (here's The Creator’s director on AI's frightening future.)

You can see why Apple wants to show them off, given the monster budget it's sinking into the show (season one of Invasion reportedly cost $200 million). The trailer also treats us to epic scenes of hulking extra-terrestrial craft, frantic war rooms, and overhead shots of capital cities lying in ruin.

Invasion: Season 2 premieres on Apple TV+ August 23, with new episodes dropping weekly.
