Can we please just leave the princess alone?

While Kate Middleton has been trying to recover from last month's abdominal surgery, the internet has descended into a frenzy of unfounded conspiracy theories about the princess's whereabouts. Despite the palace's repeated attempts to keep the public at bay with health status updates and a statement noting Middleton's absence from royal duties until at least Easter, fans still believe that something nefarious is happening behind the scenes.

Earlier this week, Middleton's husband, Prince William, canceled a commitment last minute because of a "personal matter," which only prompted the theories to pick up steam. Instead of taking the palace's updates at face value and allowing the princess to enjoy some well-deserved R&R at Adelaide Cottage, people took to social media (primarily X, formerly known as Twitter) to share their own ludicrous hypotheses, which included, but are not limited to: growing out her bangs, undergoing a BBL procedure, hiding from her kids in the bathroom, or entering the Princess Protection Program. One tweet even had a photoshopped picture of her and Hollywood's notorious ladies man Pete Davidson.

Others expressed concern with more serious, but equally as baseless, claims like Middleton donating her kidney to King Charles in exchange for Queen status, or that she's downright missing. Others find it strange that the palace has frequently briefed the public on King Charles's health but not Middleton's condition.

Middleton was last photographed on Christmas Day ahead of her January 16 surgery (65 days ago, as some eagle-eyed conspiracists have pointed out), though, the palace warned us from the beginning that the Princess of Wales would be laying low until Easter — which doesn't even take place for another month (this year, the Christian holiday arrives on Mar. 31).

"The Princess of Wales appreciates the interest this statement will generate," the palace said in a statement at the time of her surgery. "She hopes that the public will understand her desire to maintain as much normality for her children as possible and her wish that her personal medical information remains private."

This is everyone's reminder to go outside, touch grass, and remember that health is a private matter. And maybe, Kate is just waiting to make-like Jesus and resurrect from her place of solace on Easter Sunday for her grand re-entrance to society.
