  • Kevin Ford never missed a day of work at Burger King in 27 years of employment

  • TikTok users saw a video of the "gifts" he received for his efforts but were underwhelmed

  • As a result, viewers of the viral video raised more than $400,000 to help Ford retire

When Burger King cashier and cook Kevin Ford started his time at the fast-food joint's McCarran International Airport location in Las Vegas, the Playstation 1 had just hit shelves. Die Hard with a Vengeance was the #1 movie in America. And everybody was learning the Macarena.

Now, 28 years later, not a lot is the same these days, but one thing has remained consistent all this time: Kevin Ford has been working at that Burger King. In fact, Ford hasn't missed a single day of work in all those years of employment.

Last year, a TikTok showed Ford receiving a gift from his workplace to commemorate his more than a quarter century of perfect attendance. The items, which included a bag of candy and a movie ticket, underwhelmed internet viewers, who rallied to raise funds for Ford to be able to retire.

According to Fox Business, the deluge of comments stating that Ford was owed more for his service inspired his daughter Seryna to launch a GoFundMe to garner enough funds to allow her father to finally retire:

"'He originally began working at this job as a single father when he gained custody of me and my older sister 27 years ago,' Seryna wrote on the GoFundMe Page. 'Then as our family grew and he remarried, he continued to work there because of the amazing health insurance that was provided through this employer because it was unionized. This got all four of his daughters through high school and college with full healthcare coverage.'"

She also noted that he continues to work there because "leaving would cost him his retirement" before stressing that "in no way are we asking for money or is he expecting any money, but if anyone feels like blessing him, he would love to visit his grandchildren."

Well, as it turns out, plenty of people did feel like blessing him, as the GoFundMe raised $408,000 for Ford. Seryna even made an update to inform supporters that he was finally able to spend time with his grandkids.

No word, however, on whether he let them split that bag of candy he got.
